September is Safety Month
It's time to refresh your safety know-how
NWREporter, October 2013
Coinciding with the "back to school" season, REALTORS® are emphasizing safety awareness and strategies during September. The 11th annual campaign by the National Association of REALTORS is intended to promote knowledge, awareness and empowerment for those who work in what the Department of Labor classifies as a high-risk occupation.
"Helping our members understand the risks they face can mean the difference between life and death," the NAR states on the safety section of its website.
Although September is proclaimed to be Safety Month, NAR provides numerous resources for year-round use to remind industry professionals of dangers they face every day, and to enlighten and empower its members with precautions and preparations for avoiding risky situations.
- webinars, videos, widgets and blogs
- seasonal safety articles and messages
- weekly and wallet-sized tips
- a series of multiple choice quizzes, and
- safety-related products
Also available on NAR's safety website are customizable forms and other content and tools focused on safety in various situations, including inside the office, outside the office, with clients, with social media, while driving, and at home. The site also has information focused on the safety of clients and consumers.
In addition to information from NAR, industry professionals can tap the resources compiled and created by the Real Estate Safety Council. This council is a nonprofit group of real estate industry leaders dedicated to improving safety in the workplace. Leadership on the council is made up of representatives from the brokerage community, the Northwest Multiple Listing Service, the Washington REALTORS®, the Seattle King County REALTORS®, the King County Sheriff's Office and the State Department of Licensing.
